- Expect competitive performances from these standouts across the program.
Ballarat racing takes place on Tuesday, July 14, with a program set down for Ballarat.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of three meetings from around Australia that we are previewing in our daily tips.
Race 1 No.10- Boridi
Boridi should be hard to beat in the opener at Ballarat. The Moody/Coleman galloper has placed in two of three career starts and looked right at home at his first go on the Synthetic at his most recent start with that coming at Pakenham. He led them up at a solid clip and was picked off late by Hyper Ballad over the 1100m. The form out of that has held up with the 3rd placegetter going on to win her next start and Boridi went 2.3 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is nearly six lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. He will strip fitter at his third run and might take a sit this time with a bit of speed drawn inside him.
Race 2 No. 9- Vegas Missile
Going with Vegas Missile in Race 2, which sees the twoy-year-olds in action. He has had the two starts so far and has finished runner-up in both of them, with those coming on the Pakenham Syntetic. The Clayton Douglas-trained galloper missed out in a close one on debut behind Paramount Plus then had excuses as a $1.75 favourite at his most recent start when posted three wide no cover before missing out. The son of Lucky Vega draws much better this time around in barrier 3 and can lead or box seat.
Race 4 No.2- Crafty Queen
Crafty Queen is a solid player in Race 4. The four-year-old did not do much in her first five starts but showed some excellent improvement when switching to the Synthetic for the firt time a couple of weeks ago at Ballarat, producing a real eye catcher when closing off with the fastest splits from the 600m to narrowly miss out behind Crafty Queen. She had to negotiate a bit of traffic in the straight on was a tad unlucky not to win, eventually going 1.6 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is five lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. She draws widest of the 14 runners and is likely to settle back but with any degree of tempo in the race, she should be hard to hold out based on her last start effort.
Race 5 No.1- Surreal I Am
Keen on Surreal I Am in Race 5. The five-year-old has had five starts on Synthetic Tracks for three wins and a runner-up, which came at his most recet start at Pakenham. He began awkwardly before pushing up to lead at a solid clip and being picked off in the shadows by Join The Que, going a healthy 5.1 lengths faster than standard. He led all the way over the 1400m prior to that when producing similar figures. The John McArdle-trained galloper will push up again to either lead or sit outside the leader and will be in it for a very long way.
