Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 4: Benchmark 78 (1600m) – Kipling’s Journey
Unwanted in the market ($21), the seven-year-old resumed off a 13-week spell on Saturday and did a mighty job winning this race.
On fresh legs, he settled outside the leader without cover to the turn, then after tracking wide, headed for home chasing Cool Music who he gave two lengths and 3kgs to and still beat him to the post.
Already a two-time winner when second-up, it might pay to stick with him for now.
Race 6: Class 6 Plate (1110m) – Zoubaby
The Tony Gollan-trained mare was second-up on Saturday and did well to take out this event.
Leaving the machine in last place, she trailed the field to the turn before Daniel Moor hooked her out wide, then in the run home, finished too good for them, crossing the line a length clear with plenty to spare.
That was career win number five and showing plenty of promise, there should be more in the wind for this campaign.
Race 7: No Metro Wins Hcp (1350m) – Headhunter
The Matt Hoysted-trained gelding resumed on Saturday after 18 weeks off the scene and caught the eye with an impressive finish where he grabbed third prize in this event.
Jake Bayliss settled him back with the tailenders before tracking into the race on the turn, then weaving through runners, he found clean air inside the final 100m and arrived in time to grab that minor prize on the line.
He will be looking for further ground now and already a two-time winner when second-up, he should be saluting again real soon.
