Race 4: No.8 Sounds Unusual

The Chris Waller-trained galloper is third-up here and looks set to make his mark in this event.

Last start, the American-sired gelding showed plenty of improvement when second-up, he beat all but one home in a BM78 over the Randwick mile with apprentice Siena Grima in the saddle.

Settling back in the field, he crossed heels in the run home and made up plenty of ground, arriving in time to grab the silver medal in the race.

Drawn well in gate four here, he maps to settle back in the field again as he steps-up to the 2100m for the first time and has Kerrin McEvoy as the new pilot.

Already a two-time winner when third-up and carrying less weight here, the five-year-old looks in the mix for the winner’s cheque in this contest.

Race 6: No.8 Big Red Tequila

The Joe Pride-trained galloper is high-flying this time in and coming off metro class racing, looks a genuine winning chance in this event.

Last start, the Shamus Award mare came off a first-up win at in Class 1 company at Kembla Grange when she stepped-up sharply in grade and did well to finish third in a BM72 Hcp over 1100m at Randwick.

Settling back in the field (after the saddle slipped at barrier rise) she made up good ground in the run home to claim third prize, beaten just half a length on the line.

Drawn in gate six here, she maps to settle mid-field or better with Sam Clipperton backing up for the ride.

Fitter for two runs back and facing an easier task here, the four-year-old should prove hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 9: No.3 Know Thyself

The Scone-based galloper has been a model of consistency winning eight of his 12 starts to date and he ticks enough boxes here to suggest he is the testing material again in this event.

Lasts start, the five-year-old offspring of The Autumn Sun resumed after eight months off the scene and looked impressive when taking out a BM100 over 1400m at Randwick.

Leaving the machine from gate 11 (of 13), Aaron Bullock had him one out, one back on settling and even racing a half kilo over, still managed to beat them all to the line.

Ideally drawn here in gate four, he maps to be parked right behind the speed again and after steering him to seven of his career wins, Aaron Bullock returns for the ride.

Stepping-up to the 1600m here looks ideal for him as he has two previous victories over the mile trip on his resume.

Only sheer bad luck looks his only enemy here and another victory looks very much on the cards for him in this contest.
