Flemington Racing Tips for January 10- Highly promising galloper to go on with it at Flemington
- Touchdown looks strong in Race 2, achieving 8.5 lengths faster than standard in previous race.
- Maharba favored in Race 8's Standish Handicap, despite heavy weight, promising recent trials.
- Hot Diggity Boom is a top contender in Race 10, bouncing back from a strong Sandown performance.
Flemington racing takes place on Saturday, January 10, with a 10-race program set down for Flemington racetrack.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also features in our daily tips.
Race 2 No.2- Touchdown
There are a few short priced favourites at Flemington on Saturday, including Jenni Gone Bonkers in the opener, as well as Knobelas later on. Touchdown does look to be the pick of those around the $2 mark and comes in with three straight wins. The exciting prospect from the Hayes stable scored by three lengths at Caulfield three starts back then knocked over Fiorenet at his next start with those two putting five lengths on the rest. Fiorenet then won on New Years Day at Flemington. At his most recent start, the four-year-old handled the small field with ease to win by more than two lengths at Caulfield over the 1800m, going 8.5 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. He gets up in the weights but looks to have a stack of upside on his rivals and the 2000m looks right up his alley.
Race 8 No.1- Maharba
Keen on Maharba in the Standish Handicap (1200m). The Grahame Begg-trained galloper should be ready to go first up after a series of promising trials and is down in class after battling into 8th position in the William Reid Stakes (1200m) last March. Recent form early in his campaigns is excellent and he ran on well after drawing wide in the Schillaci Stakes (1100m) for 3rd when fresh at his last prep before defeating Rey Magnerio at the track and trip. The son of Pride Of Dubai carts the 60kg but does have a clear class edge in what looks to be a weak edition of the Standish. He should be hard to hold out late in the piece.
Race 10 No.13- Hot Diggity Boom
Hot Diggity Boom is well worth a play in the final race of the day at Flemington. The four-year-old jumps to the 1400m second up and hit the line well when resuming over the 1200m at Sandown on Boxing Day, placing 4th behind Mercurial Lady. The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper looks to have come back in good order and did his best work over the 1400m at his last preparation when twice runner-up over the distance, including one at Flemington in narrow fashion behind Zourain when going a very healthy 12 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He draws much better than that horse and should be doing his best work late.
