Race 4: No.5 Joviale
The Stuart Padman-trained galloper has found his mojo and looks more than capable of going back-to-back in this event.
Last start, the Fiorente gelding put in a complete form reversal when he destroyed his rivals in a Class 1 Hcp over 1508m at Gawler.
Rochelle Milnes settled him right behind the speed, one off the fence, before throwing down the challenge inside the final 200m where he took over and raced away to score by almost three lengths on the line.
The stable removed the winkers for that event which had a positive effect on the outcome in the end.
This looks no harder and from gate five, he maps to settle near mid-field with cover as Milnes takes the reins again.
Now back to his best, the five-year-old looks a major player in this contest.
Race 5: No.6 Vaniteux
Team Koch saddle-up Vaniteux here who is high-flying this time in and resuming off a short let-up today, looks a real danger in this event.
Last start, the Smart Missile mare came off her maiden win and came close to making it two-straight when she beat all but one home in a Class 2 Hcp, here over 1350m.
With apprentice Brooke King aboard, settled second in the run before taking control inside the final 400m but was grabbed on the line by one better on the day.
Meeting similar company here, she is ideally drawn in gate two and maps to be box-seating on settling with King steering the ship again.
A track specialist now with top-two finishes from both appearances here to date, a trouble-free run today should see her there at the finish in this contest.
Race 6: No.2 Bargain Boy
The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper is four starts into this preparation and looks better placed here where he can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Graff gelding came off his maiden win when he stepped-up to city class competition and couldn’t match it with them, finishing mid-field in the Class 2 Hcp over 1600m at Morphettville.
He settled three pairs back one off the fence with Connor Murtagh aboard before tracking wide on the turn and while never a winning chance, he gave it his all and was beaten just two lengths on the line.
Back to Class 1 competition at the provincials today, he has drawn the outside gate (12) for this assignment but maps to go forward and cross to be near the speed with Murtagh calling the shots again.
At his peak after four starts back and down in grade today, he looks set to bounce back in this contest.
