Caulfield Racing Tips for February 18 – Promising Freedman galloper to chalk up another win.

Caulfield racing takes place on Wednesday, February 18, with an eight-race program set down for Caulfield racetrack.

Race 1 No.4- Cannae
Race 3 No.3- Shinjina
Race 5 No.1- Onavuitton
Race 8 No.4- Everain

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also features in our midweek tips.

Race 1 No.4- Cannae

Cannae looks set to deliver in the opener. The three-year-old has had just the one career start with that coming at Sandown on January 28 over the 1300m. He drea towards the outside in the eight-horse field and settled last before coming home in 22.04 over the last 400m to finish on the heels of the placegetters. The 3rd placegetter out of that has since won at Pakenham. He draws wide again but the step up to the 1500m looks like it will suit and with Damian Lane on board, he should be hard to hold out at the business end.

Race 3 No.3- Shinjina

Going with Shinjina in Race 3. The Moody/Coleman galloper comes into this second up and was solid at Pakenham when resuming in this grade over the 1000m, filling the exacta behind Wintery and enjoying a decent gap on the rest of them. She just peaked on her run late. The daughter of Snitzel will strip fitter and her best performance in her debut campaign arguably came when 7th over the 1200m at Group 3 level behind Snow Mercy. Look for her to settle handy in a race that doesn't seem to have heaps of pressure. The 3kg claimer, Emily Pozman, is on board and strikes at a healthy 23% when combining with the stable.

Race 5 No.1- Onavuitton

Onavuitton will find this easier than a last start effort that saw him place 4th behind the gun three-year-old, Observer, at Group 2 level at Caulfield on February 7. The Simon Zahra-trained galloper sat handy on a hot tempo and was good, sticking on to place 4th, beaten less than three lengths. He was a dominant Maiden winner prior to that at Cranbourne and this does seem a logical stepping stone. He carts top weight for this but will find proceedings much easier and he has draw to land in a perfect stalking position from barrier 5 with Thomas Stockdale to ride. He provides a 25% profit on investment when combining with the stable.

Race 8 No.4- Everain

The promising Everain can go on with the job in the final race of the day. He comes into this with a winning record of three from six starts and resumed with an impressive performance to round up his rivals over the 1400m when resuming at Caulfield on January 24. He appreciated the strong tempo in that before closing off strongly. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper should be even better over the 1600m and has shown in his six starts that he can adapt to what the tempo might bring. Expect the son of Manhattan Rain to be hard to hold out.
