Race 5: No.4 Haze
The Brett Cavanough-trained Haze is back in form and looks well placed here make it two-straight in this event.
Last start, the Toronado gelding finally shook the maiden monkey and broke through for his first win on the Beaumont track at Newcastle over 1350m.
Crossing from the outside gate (9), Donovan Dillon drove him to the lead and was never troubled after that, putting more than four lengths on them over the line that day.
He gets all the favours here jumping from gate one today and maps to settle on the speed as Dillon sticks with him for this assignment.
The step-up to the 1450m should prove no problem based on his winning margin last start as he drops back to country competition here.
A trouble-free run should see him hard to run down in this contest.
Race 6: No.6 Wilbury
Dubbo trainer Brett Robb saddles-up Wilbury here who is in top-shelf form this time in and looking for the hat-trick in this event.
Last start, the Capitalist gelding came off a first-up win at Wyong when he franked that effort and made it two-straight, taking out a BM74 over 1100m on his home track.
He draws wide here in gate 10 (of 14) and maps to cross and settle in the first half-dozen.
Clay Gallagher boasts an outstanding record with the five-year-old, having steered him to five wins and two seconds from his seven previous rides and is back aboard for today’s contest.
He drops 3kgs for this Open company clash and with a little luck in running (from his wide gate), he looks a genuine chance of remaining unbeaten this preparation.
Race 8: No.7 Sanzeno
The ever-consistent Sanzeno is second-up today and even stepping up in grade, he looks the testing material in this event.
Last start, the Trapeze Artist gelding resumed off a 19-week spell where he picked up the baton and ran, proving too good for his Class 1 rivals over 1200m at Tamworth.
With Aaron Bullock aboard again, he drew wide and settled back in the field before swinging wide on the turn and storming home to grab victory right on the post.
He steps-up to Class 2 competition today where he draws better in gate five and maps to settle better than mid-field in the 14-strong event.
Already a winner second-up and proven at the 1200m with five podium finishes from six starts at the distance, his claims here stand out and looks the one to beat again.
