Race 5 No.4- Tonkin

Tonkin is a clear top pick in Race 5. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper in the Godolphin blue shows a stack of promise and ran her rivals ragged at the track and trip on January 24, cruising to a four-length win ahead of La Vie En, while there was a similar gap back to 3rd. She ran quick time that evening and sticks to this grade. Sure to jump at a short quote and she is one to pop into multi’s for the weekend.

Race 7 No. 12- Newfoundland

Nice race with the middle distance gallopers in action at Listed level in the Torney Night Cup (2500m). Newfoundland should be in it for a long way. The Waterhouse/Bott import hasn't finished further back than 5th in his seven runs since coming over and has landed in the top three in five of those, winning two. He last appeared at Flemington just over a month ago and led them up over the 2500m before sticking on well to fill the exacta behind Taramansour. The six-year-old went 11.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is nearly four lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. He has options to either lead or box seat from the kind draw and I expect to see him fighting out the finish.

Race 8 No. 7- Overactive

This looks to be a suitable assignment for Overactive. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper sticks to the shorter trips this time around and was luckless when returning off a nine-week break at Sandown on January 25 over the 1200m when a narrow 3rd behind Sunshineinmypocket. The five-year-old was slowly away then was held up as they cornered before running home strongly. He will strip fitter for this and Blake Shinn just needs to find a spot in the early stages from barrier 8.
