Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 1: Two-Year-Old Plate (1000m) – Tour De Force
The Chris Waller-trained youngster made his debut on Saturday and caught the eye when beating all but one home in this event.
Nash Rawiller settled him back in the field and in the run home, he was held-up most of the way, then finally clear, he stormed home to grab the silver medal in the race, beaten just half a length on the line.
A fine start to a promising career so stick with him for now.
Race 2: Class 3 Hwy Hcp (1600m) – Ocean Tsunami
Second-up on Saturday, the Scott Singleton-trained mare impressed with a win in this event.
After jumping from gate 10 (of 12), Zac Lloyd managed to have him settled right behind the two front runners on settling to the turn before taking over soon after straightening and did well to hold off the challenges and claim the gold medal.
That’s now four wins and as many runner-up finishes from just 11 career starts to date and already a winner when third-up as well, it should pay to follow her this preparation.
Race 3: BM72 Midway Hcp (1200m) – Lawless Lucy
The John Thompson-trained mare was second-up on Saturday and had no luck all when finishing sixth in the 14-strong field.
Drawn out in gate 11, Jason Collett had her settled worse than midfield and trapped wide to the turn, then with a wall of horses in front of her, she finally secured clean air and while no chance of winning, finished better than any other, beaten 2.5 lengths on the line.
A better gate may have seen a different result and already a winner when third-up, the four-year-old will bounce back from that unlucky run and should be followed for now.
