Swan Hill Racing Tips for October 27 – Neziha to end the day a winner with Harry Coffey in the saddle
- What Once Was is the standout in Race 1, leading a weak maiden field.
- King Koruna is well drawn and expected to return to form in Race 2.
- Neziha seeks a second consecutive win in Race 8, appealing from a good barrier.
Swan Hill racing takes place on Tuesday, October 27, with a competitive country meeting set down for Swan Hill.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.
Race 1 No.9 – What Once Was
What Once Was should be hard to beat in the opener at Swan Hill. The three-year-old filly has had four career starts, placing in three of those, and has shown plenty of early speed. She led at Warracknabeal last time before being run down late by Honour The Bassett. Arguably her best performance came on debut at this track and trip, when she led and was narrowly edged out by Ride Like Michelle. She looks likely to find the front again, with little obvious pressure from her rivals, and should be able to control proceedings. This is a relatively weak maiden, and she stands out as the clear top pick.
Race 2 No.5 – King Koruna
King Koruna can return to form in Race 2. The three-year-old has been unable to fire in four starts for the Ciaron Maher stable this preparation after showing promise in his previous campaign, including a fifth behind Natural Flirt at Caulfield at just his second career start. He resumed at Sale and had a couple of excuses when racing keenly and being checked before finishing eighth, beaten around two lengths. He then headed to Mildura, where he settled handy but was no match for White Pointer. This assignment looks no harder, and he should be approaching peak fitness with those runs under his belt. He draws perfectly in barrier four and looks the one to beat.
Race 8 No.9 – Neziha
Neziha can make it back-to-back wins when she steps out in the final race of the day. The Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained mare has had just four career starts for two wins and resumed with an impressive victory on the synthetic at Pakenham earlier this month. She settled handy, made her winning move approaching the 200m and fought strongly to outlast her rivals. That performance followed some encouraging trial form, and she has previously demonstrated her ability to improve second-up. Last preparation, she followed a runner-up finish at Geelong with a dominant victory at Donald. She has had a somewhat stop-start career but looks to have plenty of upside. With several key rivals drawing wide, she should enjoy a favourable run from barrier three. Harry Coffey knows the Swan Hill track well, and the mare looks capable of ending the day on a winning note.
