Morphettville racing takes place on Saturday, September 7, with a 9-race program set down for the Morphettville track.
- Race 2: No.5 Watchme Win
- Race 3: No.1 Flamin’ Romans
- Race 6: No.3 The Guava
- Race 7: No.8 Heywood
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Morphettville racecourse.
Race 2: No.5 Watchme Win
The Andrew Gluyas-trained Watchme Win has had three successful runs to start his racing career and looks well placed here for a second win in this event.
Last start, the Irish-sired gelding was having his third start when he beat all but one home in a Bm62, here over 1250m.
He drew gate 12 (of 13) that day and was never on the track but still finished strongly to be beaten less than a length on the line.
He is much better treated at the barriers here where he draws gate four and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with cover.
Jason Holder is the new pilot for this assignment where the four-year-old should be at peak fitness with three runs under his belt and shapes-up as one of the leading contenders in this contest.
Race 3: No.1 Flamin’ Romans
The Ciaron Maher-trained Flamin’ Romans makes his first trip across the Victorian border and after three starts back, looks well placed here to bring up career-win number three in this event.
Last start, the Ghibellines gelding came off a big second-up win at Geelong when he wasn’t disgraced in finishing third in a harder BM70 over 2040m at Moonee Valley.
He settled back in the field (from a wide gate) and on the tight-turning Valley track, gave the leaders too much start and was unable to reel them in.
This looks a little easier and from gate three, he maps to be box-seating on settling with Todd Pannell in the saddle.
At his peak after three runs back, he looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 6: No.3 The Guava
Team Cahill saddle-up The Guava here who is high-flying after three starts this preparation and looks well placed to make it three wins in four starts this time in.
Last start, the Akeed Mofeed gelding brought up win number two for the campaign when he took out a BM70, here over 1400m with Jason Holder on board for the first time.
Lumping 60kgs that day, he camped just behind the speed and after taking charge in the run home, he had enough in store to hang on and win.
He steps up in grade here, taking on BM78 company but drops 2kgs for the contest and has Holder sticking with him as well.
His four starts at the track have resulted in two wins and a minor money placing and at his peak here, he looks the testing material.
Race 7: No.8 Heywood
The Victorian visitor Heywood has found his mojo this time in and looks a solid winning chance at big odds in this event.
Last start, the Super One gelding stripped fitter after four runs back when he proved too good for them in a BM64 over 1500m at Bendigo.
With 61kgs and Ethan Brown on his back, he crossed from gate six (of 10) and took up the early lead before showing a solid turn-of-foot and put a gap on them, going onto an impressive 1.5 length victory that day.
He is stepping-up in grade here as he takes on a BM78 field but does drop 5kgs for the event and gets the gun-run from gate one where he maps to settle near the speed.
Jason Holder takes the reins here with the six-year-old already having track experience, winning at his only appearance here in a BM64 two years ago.
He is in great touch this time in and looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
