Geelong Racing Tips for September 23 – Veteran drops 5kg and set to strike over the 2400m

Meness can break through in Race 2. The Mark Walker colt has placed in two of his three career starts and missed out in narrow fashion over the 1300m at Bendigo last time behind Zambales. That form reads well for this as the winner was well-performed in the major races for his age group last autumn when embarking on a Golden Slipper (1200m) campaign, while the 4th horse past the post has since scored at Bendigo. At his only second up run, Meness went from a well beaten 9th at Flemington to a runner-up at Sandown. The son of Ghaiyyath should enjoy the run of the race from barrier 3 and is the one to beat. 

Nice race with some promising fillies in action. Stipulation has been building up nicely and was outsrpinted to the line at Sandown over the 1200m last time when going down behind Rgeal Ambition but held a sizeable gap to the third horse and looks as though she is searching for the extra trip that presents in this race (1425m). The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner and will land in the perfect stalking position from barrier 4. 

Black Peppermint should just about be ready to produce when he steps out in Race 6. The veteran has had the four runs this time in, stepping up to the 2400m in the mosr recent of those and was caught on a hot tempo with 61.5kg before just tiring late. He will be fitter for that and drops 5kg, while the prospect of a Good track this time around also plays into his hands.
