- Race 6: No.1 Manaal
- Race 8: No.10 Zardozi
- Race 9: No.8 Amelia’s Jewel
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Randwick racecourse.
Race 2: No.1 Lost
The James Cummings-trained Lost is third-up here and looks well placed to bounce back in this event.
Last start, the Exceed And Excel mare came off a big first-up win at Warwick Farm when she overraced in a BM78 at Rosehill which proved costly where she finished mid-field in the 1100m race.
With James McDonald aboard, nothing went right for her as she pulled-up lame after the event.
Nash Rawiller is the new pilot for this assignment and drawn well in gate three, she maps to settle mid-field with cover.
If she has overcome her issues and remains focused here, the Godolphin mare can give this a real shake at odds.
Race 6: No.1 Manaal
The Michael Freedman-trained Manaal is second-up here and boasting a strong fresh record, looks set to challenge strongly for victory in this event.
Last start, the Tassort filly resumed off an 18-week absence when she wasn’t far away in finishing third in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes, here over 1200m.
With Jason Collett in charge that day, he settled the filly mid-field with cover, then in the run home finished strongly to cross the line less than half a length from race-winner Ameena.
Collett sticks with her for this Group 2 event and from gate seven, she maps to be mid-field with cover on settling.
All three career wins have come on the Randwick track and already a winner when second-up, she should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 8: No.10 Zardozi
Another from the Cummings stable is Zardozi who is second-up here and should be ready to rock in this event.
Last start, the Kingman mare was fresh off a 19-week spell when clearly in need of the run, she finished mid-field in the Group 1 Winx Stakes.
It was a tall order to face black-type gallopers on fresh legs but she wasn’t disgraced, finishing just a tick of two lengths from the winner in the end.
James McDonald returns for this assignment where she draws gate five and is expected to drop back at the start.
She will appreciate the rise to the 1600m trip in this Group 2 event and is already a two-time winner when second-up.
Under weight-for-age conditions here, she meets these better at the weights and with a clear run to the line, she can finish over the top of them.
Race 9: No.8 Amelia’s Jewel
The Annabel Neasham Team send out Amelia’s Jewel in her first start for the new stable and boasting an outstanding first-up record, looks the best of the day.
Last start, the seven-time Group winner turned in a disappointing effort in the Group 1 Goodwood Hcp where she was having her first look at the Morphettville track, finishing down the track that day in the 15-strong field.
Spelled immediately, she made her way to the Team Neasham stable where she has successfully trialled twice, winning her most recent run with Tommy Berry aboard for both efforts.
The blinkers come off for this assignment with Berry being legged aboard for the first time (under race conditions) and from barrier eight, she maps to settle mid-field with cover.
Five previous first-up runs produced four wins and a close-up second with the five-year-old also being undefeated at Group 2 level, winning all four previous appearances.
Her trial form suggests she’s ready to go and with just a little luck in the run home, she can get the job done in this contest.
