Kerrin McEvoy settled her back near the tail of the field on the fence before turning for home then sticking to the inside, passed horse after horse, crossing the line just 2.5 lengths from the winner, still taking ground off the placegetters.

Always competitive over the mile trip, the seven-year-old is already a winner when third-up and looks set for another positive campaign this time.

Rachel King had her settled third-last, six lengths behind the speed to the turn, then with a wall of horses in front of her, had to track very wide before seeing daylight, and with no chance of winning from there, did a mighty job to storm home and grab the silver medal in the race, shaving many lengths off the winner, beaten just over two lengths on the line.

The five-year-old does her best work from 1600m to 2000m so she will now be looking for more ground. Keep her safe from this point onwards.
