Happy Valley racing takes place on Wednesday, September 23 with a 9-race program set down for the Happy Valley racetrack.

Race 3: No.5 Amazing Gaze

The David Hayes-trained galloper is second-up tonight and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can go back-to-back in this event.

Last start, the Irish-sired gelding resumed off a 12-week absence and put in a mighty effort to win a Class 4 Hcp, here over the 1650m trip.

From gate nine, Karis Teetan pushed forward and settled two pairs back but was trapped three-wide going out of the straight the first time before finally slotting closer to the fence mid-race.

Coming to the turn, he then crossed heels and in the run home, found the front and showing no signs of fatigue, went on to clobber his rivals, putting 2.5 lengths on them over the line.

Drawn much better tonight, he jumps form gate three and maps to be parked just behind the leading group with James Orman as the new pilot.

Punished for his big last-start win, he carries 3.5kgs more tonight but with fitness on his side and the better draw, he still looks the one to beat in this contest.

Race 6: No.4 Superb King

The Francis Lui-trained galloper is second-up tonight and looks better placed here to go one better in this event.

Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding did well on fresh legs to beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint.

Jumping from the carpark in gate 12 (of 12), Jerry Chau pushed forward and ended up sharing the lead on settling but was trapped three-deep to the turn, then in the run home, still managed to shake off the other two leaders and looked home but was run down by Jumbo Blessing who enjoyed a much better run and went on to score, by less than a length on the line.

He draws much better in gate three tonight and maps to be box-seating on settling with Chau steering the ship again.

Clashing again with Jumbo Blessing, he is drawn better and meets the topweight 2.5kgs better at the weights as well.

Six minor placings from 12 career starts, the five-year-old is yet to post his first win but that can all change tonight in this contest.

Race 8: No.8 Danica’s Choice

The Manfred Man-trained galloper resumes off the season break tonight and looks well placed to perform on fresh legs in this event.

Last start, the Swiss Ace gelding ended his last (three-start) campaign by beating all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m.

From gate six, Andrea Atzeni had him settled outside the leader (Harmony N Blessed) to the turn, then in the run home, the two of them settled down to fight-out a two-horse war and after swapping the leadership on several occasions, the David Hayes-trained 10-year-old got the bob-in on the line to claim victory by a nose.

Since then, the veteran galloper finished unplaced in similar company at his last start.

From gate five tonight, the gelding maps to be on or near the speed again with Atzeni retaining the ride as he meets the topweight better at the weights for this assignment.

With a trouble-free run tonight, the five-year-old looks every chance of turning the tables in this contest.
