Gawler racing takes place on Wednesday, September 23 with a 7-race program set down for the Gawler racetrack.

Race 3: No.6 Extra Chill

The Jake Stephens-trained galloper comes off a couple of unplaced runs in the city here and back to country racing, looks a genuine winning chance in this event.

Last start, the Churchill mare struggled against metropolitan gallopers when she finished unplaced in a BM64 Hcp over 1800m at Morphettville.

Rochelle Milnes settled her near last in the 16-strong field but in the run home, the mare saved face by running home well to beat half the field to the line, finishing less than three lengths from the winner in the end.

Dropping back to a country Class 1 at set weights here, she draws well in gate six and maps to settle near mid-field with Kayla Crowther as the new pilot for this assignment.

Facing a much easier task here, the five-year-old should be there at the finish of this contest.

Race 4: No.3 Affaire Vue

John Macmillan saddles-up Affaire Vue here who has returned in top-shelf form and looks well placed here to go on with it in this event.

Last start, the Dundeel mare resumed off a nine-week spell and did it in style as she clobbered her opposition in a Rating 0-54 Hcp over 1200m at Bordertown.

From gate nine (of 11), Todd Pannell had her settled two pairs back to the turn before tracking wide, then down the centre of the track, the mare finished too strong for them in the end and went on to score by almost two lengths in the end.

Stepping-up to the 1500m trip here, she takes on BM58 company and from gate seven, maps to settle maps to settle just off the speed with Pannell in charge again.

Already a winner when second-up, fitter for that first-up effort, the five-year-old should prove hard to hold out again in this contest.

Race 7: No.5 Tour De Moon

The Team Cahill-trained galloper returned in good touch and despite a recent hiccup, still looks a serious contender in this event.

Last start, the well-bred Press Statement gelding came off back-to-back podium finishes when he finished down the track in a BM56 over 1300m at Bordertown.

Carrying 61kgs and settling near last early, the gelding gave them far too much start and was ridden hard halfway into the race to keep up, then tracking wide on the turn, had nothing more to give and battled on to finish seventh of the ten runners with Dylan Caboche in the saddle.

The stable are obviously confident he needs more ground as he steps-up to the 1500m here in BM58 company and from gate nine, he maps to settle in the back half of the field with Jake Toeroek back for his third ride on the galloper.

At his peak after three runs back, he sees Gawler for the first time here and forgiving him for that last-start disappointment, he has scope for improvement and looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
