Race 4: No.9 Sneaky Choice
The Brad Widdup-trained galloper is three starts into this campaign and looks ready to produce her best in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Extreme Choice mare was third-up and showed plenty of improvement when she beat all but one home in a BM72, here over the mile trip.
From barrier rise, Rachel King settled her near last on the fence where she sat patiently to the turn, then coming off heels, she was the widest runner turning for home and hit the line strongly to finish les than half a length from victory as she claimed the runner-up prize for the race.
Stepping-up to BM78 company here, the mare comes in on the limit carrying just 55.5kgs today and from gate seven, maps to settle back in the field with King in the saddle again.
Fitter for those three runs back and a winner when fourth-up last preparation, the five-year-old looks well-weighted to give this contest a real fright.
Race 5: No.2 Cuban Cigar
Tracey Bartley saddles-up Cuban Cigar here who is in great touch after three starts back and looks well placed here to be in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Churchill gelding was third-up and stepping-up in grade, finished mid-field in a BM78 over 1500m at Rosehill.
Sent out a $26 chance, Mitchell Bell settled him mid-field to the turn, then in the run home, the gelding held his ground and hit the line well but was just outclassed on the day, finishing 4.5 lengths from the winner.
Dropping back to BM72 company here, he draws gate nine and maps to settle in the back half of the field and after steering him to second place in similar company two starts back, Shannen Llewellyn returns to take the reins for this assignment.
Placed in this grade and at his peak here, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 6: No.4 Bartolf
The O’Shea & Charlton-trained galloper is third-up here and ticks enough boxes to suggest he has what it takes to claim the gold medal in this event.
Last start, the So You Think gelding showed improvement when he finished fifth in a BM78 over 1200m at Randwick.
In the big field of 15 runners, Zac Lloyd settled him in the box-seat on the leader’s heels to the turn, then eased off the fence, he laid down his final challenge and was there to the last 100m where his condition gave in but still finished gamely in the run to the line, beaten 3.5 lengths on the post.
Now fitter for those two runs back, he steps-up to the 1300m here and drawn nicely in gate four, maps to settle mid-field or better with James McDonald returning for his second ride on the gelding, having steered him to victory once previously.
Already a winner when third-up, the five-year-old looks the testing material in this contest.
