Geelong Racing Tips for May 22 – Princing a great chance in final race at Geelong
- Misty Whimper (R1): Set for improvement after strong debut finish.
- Magnus Maximus (R2): Boasts fastest benchmarks, likely to benefit from extra distance.
- Princing (R8): Up in trip, expected to fight out the finish in last race.
Geelong racing takes place on Friday, May 22, with a program set down for Geelong.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is the first of two meetings in Victoria on Friday with the action to follow at Pakenham.
Race 1 No.6- Misty Whimper
Misty Whimper did a few things wrong at his debut but caught the eye late when 4th behind Marsept at Geelong and is one to consider in the opener. His run came over the 1125m and he began awkwardly then raced keenly in a bid to stick with them. He made ground late in the piece with the fastest last 200m and will be much better for the run. The son of D’argento had trialled well in the lead up to his debut and draws to land in an ideal spot from barrier 3. Worth thought at the each-way quote.
Race 2 No.7- Magnus Maximus
Race 2 is a Maiden over the 1100m and Magnus Maximus can go close at the third start of his career. The Wangaratta galloper was well supported in the betting when resumin at Echuca on May 11 and settled in a midfield spot over the 1000m before closing off strongly with the fastest last 400m and 200m to land half a length off Taupe as the runner-up horse. He went 4.4 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start benchmark figure of any runner and the second best that any horse in this race has produced. The son of Magnus will probably have to settle in the three wide line from the barrier but will have improvement to come and the step up to the 1100m will suit.
Race 8 No.10- Princing
Going with Princing in the final race of the afternoon at Geelong. The three-year-old resumed at Pakenham on a Heavy track on a fortnight ago and worked up from the wide barrier to sit midfield before sticking on well for 4th. He was a bit one paced but they did go hard early on and his effort was full of merit, given that the 1200m is short of his ideal trip. The Jerome Hunter gelding gets out to the 1400m and went from a well beaten 5th over the 1200m when first up at his last preparation to a very narrow runner-up at Mornington over the 1500m when second up, before scoring at Werribee. He should enjoy a nice time of it from barrier 6 where he can sit up on the speed and we can expect to see him fighting out the finish.
