Belmont racing takes place on Saturday, July 18 with an 8-race program set down for the Belmont racetrack.

Race 2: No.8 Mai Aloha

The Team Williams-trained galloper is high-flying this preparation and looks set for another top-shelf performance in this event.

Last start, the Long Leaf mare made it a hat-trick of top-two finishes when she beat all but one home in a No Metro Wins Hcp, here over 1200m.

William Pike settled her second in the run where she stalked the leader to the turn, then in the run home tried valiantly to reel the front-runner in but couldn’t bridge the gap, beaten half a length on the line.

Drawn in gate seven, she maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with Pike in the saddle again.

Fourth-up and at her peak, the four-year-old should prove hard to keep out in this contest.

Race 5: No.8 Shimonseki

Justine Erkelens saddles-up Shimonoseki here who is in top-shelf form this time in and looks a serious contender in this event.

Last start, the Extreme Choice mare made it back-to-back wins when she took out a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1700m.

Shaun O'Donnell settled her mid-field to the turn before scouting wide then in the run home, overpowered all in front of her and took the chequered flag, half a length in front of them.

Drawn wide in gate ten, she maps to cross and settle near mid-field with O'Donnell in the saddle again.

Already a two-time winner at the track and distance, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.

Race 7: No.9 Want A Winner

The Team Casey-trained galloper resumes after eight months off the scene and boasting a strong fresh record, looks the one to beat in this event.

Last start, the Yes Yes Yes entire came off a 16-week spell and beat all but one to the line in a Rating 66+ over 1000m at Ascot.

In a fast-run race, William Pike settled him fourth early before peeling off the fence on the turn and in the run home, chased hard all the way but spotted them too much start and had to settle for second prize on the line.

He gets the gun-run from gate one here and maps to be box-seating on settling with Pike holding the reins again.

Four previous first-up appearances resulted in three wins and a runner-up finish and he is also a two-time winner at the track and distance.

Coming off a recent trial win, the stats suggest he will be mighty hard to beat in this contest.
