The Michael Lane-trained galloper is second-up here and yet to run a bad race, looks the one to beat in this event.
Last start, the Universal Ruler gelding resumed off a 19-week spell and impressed when finishing a close-up third in a Class 1 Hcp over 1100m at Northam.
With Chris Parnham aboard, he matched his rivals all the way to the line, beaten a neck by a neck on the post in a three-way finish.
Parnham sticks with him here where he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating off the leader’s heels.
A clear run to the line here should see him finishing strongly and very hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 5: No.7 Gold Maker
Donna Riordan saddles-up Gold Maker here who is second-up and will be looking to go one better in this event.
Last start, the Universal Ruler gelding resumed off a five-month break and finished a close-up second in a Class 3 Hcp over 1100m at Northam.
Coming from back in the field, he ran the best closing splits for the race, only to be beaten a neck on the line.
Drawn gate seven here, Joey Azzopardi returns for his third ride on the four-year-old who maps to settle back in the field again and is yet to miss a podium finish in three starts at the track and distance.
Fitter for that first-up run, there’s plenty to like about his credentials here and with a trouble-free run, he looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.
Race 8: No.10 Surround Me
The Team Williams-trained galloper is two starts into this campaign and looks up to this challenge today.
Last start, the well-bred So You Think mare came off an impressive first-up win when she found the 1000m trip too short in a Class 1 Hcp at Pinjarra, finishing just behind the placegetters that day.
The five-year-old steps-up in grade here and takes on Class 3 company but also has more ground to play with as she runs over the 1300m with regular rider William Pike on board again.
Down in weight, she draws gate seven and maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with cover.
Fitter for two runs back, the mare is more than capable of matching it with the Class 3 field here and a trouble-free run should see her finishing off strongly in this contest.
