Race 2: No.2 Brucey
The Matt Dale-trained galloper is third-up today and with a few adjustments, looks set to bounce back in this event.
Last start, the Unite And Conquer gelding came off an impressive first-up maiden win when he finished mid-field in a Class 1 Hcp over 1400m at Goulburn.
Stepping-up from the 1200m trip, he led them on settling once more but found the extra trip a little too much and weakened out of it over the final 200 metres with Brodie Loy aboard.
Dropping back to the more suitable 1200m here, he jumps from gate four and maps to be leading them again with Nick Heywood as the new pilot.
The stable have also fitted a tongue tie for the first time and with these changes in place, the four-year-old looks a serious contender for the big prize in this contest.
Race 4: No.7 Mystic Diva
The Garry Kirkup-trained galloper is third-up today and ticks enough boxes to suggest she is a worthy contender in this event.
Last start, the Divine Prophet mare showed plenty of improvement when she came off an unplaced effort first-up at Moruya when she beat all but one home in a BM55 Hcp over 1400m at Canberra.
With Deon Le Roux aboard for the first time, she jumped from gate 11 (of 15) and settled last in the big field before coming off the fence on the turn and scouting wide where she came off heels and although still last inside the final 200m, stormed home to grab second prize, beaten less than half a length on the line.
Stepping-up to the more suitable 1600m here, she jumps from barrier eight and maps to settle back in the field where she carries less weight after the claim.
Both career wins to date were third-up and over the mile trip and now fitter for those two runs back, the seven-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 7: No.4 Superata
Greg Hickman saddles-up Superata here who is second-up and looks well placed over the 1400m in this event.
Last start, the Pierata gelding resumed after five months off the scene and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fourth in a Class 1 Hcp over 1300m at Hawkesbury.
Jean Van Overmeire settled him mid-field one off the fence to the turn before tracking wide and soon after straightening, he took the lead but lacking race fitness, he wilted over the final 100m to finish just behind the placegetters, beaten two lengths on the line.
Drawn gate nine today, he maps to cross and settle near mid-field with Van Overmeire steering the ship again for this assignment.
Fitter for that first-up run, he should find this BM66 no harder and over the 1400m today, he looks a genuine contender for the major prize in this contest.
