Ascot racing takes place on Saturday, March 1, with a 9-race program set down for Ascot racetrack.

Race 4: No.4 Covert Rose

The Team Williams-trained Covert Rose is second-up here and looks well placed to go one better on this event.

Last start, the Dissident mare resumed after six months off the scene and did well to beat all but home in a Class 5 Hcp over 1400m at Bunbury.

Settling outside the leader she ran home strongly but lacking race condition, was unable to bridge the gap and had to settle for second prize on the day.

William Pike has steered the mare to all four career wins and returns to pick up where he left off.

She draws the outside gate in barrier eight and will need a little luck from there to cross and settle near the speed.

The extra distance looks ideal for her now having already had success over the mile trip.

Pike boasts a 30% success rate with the Williams camp and with a trouble-free run here, he can add another feather in his cap in this contest.

Race 7: No.1 Twain’s Angel

The Team Casey-trained galloper is in top-shelf form this preparation and well drawn here, ticks all the boxes that suggest another win is on the cards.

Last start, the Toronado mare came off a solid win in the Listed Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m) when she contested her third-straight Listed event and did well to beat all but Snowdome home in the 1200m contest on this track.

Regular rider Madi Derrick was aboard for both races and has steered the mare to all seven career-wins to date, remaining in the saddle for this assignment as well.

From gate three, she maps to be box-seating on settling and while in such outstanding form of late, she can get the job done here.

Race 9: No.7 Gi Gi Pops

The Tim Crosby-trained Gi Gi Pops is yet to miss a podium finish in five career starts and third-up here, looks capable of giving race favourite Shmoov Moova a real fright in this event.

Last start, the Justify filly showed further improvement when second-up as she beat all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp over 1300m at Belmont.

Carrying 58kgs and ridden by Shaun McGruddy on the day, she led from the outset and was only caught wanting in the final few strides, beaten a long neck on the line.

She draws the outside gate here but her early gate speed should see her settle up front and dictating the speed from there.

Brad Parnham is aboard for his fourth ride on the three-year-old who drops 3kgs for this assignment which looks no harder on paper.

If she can preserve some dash for the run home, she can make her Ascot debut a winning one in this contest.
