Strathalbyn racing takes place on Wednesday, February 19, with an 8-race program set down for Strathalbyn racetrack.

Race 2: No.5 Balistique

Race 2: No.5 Balistique

The Team MacGillivray-trained Balistique has impressed in all three races starts to date and looks set to go on with it in this event.

Last start, the Smart Missile filly found the podium for the third straight time when she beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1600m at Murray Bridge.

Settling mid-field on the fence, she ran home strongly but missed by a whisker, beaten a head on the line, conceding 3kgs to the winner.

Ideally drawn in gate two here, this looks no harder and at her peak after three runs in, she will take beating in this contest.

Race 4: No.8 Astromancer

The locally-trained Astromancer is third-up here and shows every sign she will figure in the finish if this event.

Last start, the Nostradamus mare was second-up and finished in the money again when she took home third prize in a BM56 over the 900m sprint at Murray Bridge.

With Jake Toeroek in the saddle again, she settled two pairs back and three-wide (with cover) but again, ended up behind two others in the run home.

Toeroek sticks with her here and from gate seven she maps to cross and settle just behind the speed.

Already a winner when third-up, the step-up to 1100m looks ideal for her now and fitter for two runs back, she can give this contest a real shake.

Race 5: No.6 Empire Grace

David Jolly saddles-up Empire Grace here who is three starts into her racing career and ticks enough boxes to suggest she can give her rivals a real fright in this event.

Last start, the Astern filly came off her maiden win on this track when she faced Class 1 company and finished mid-field in the 1100m event.

Drifting back in field early, she left herself a real task in the run home but still finished strongly to be beaten less than two lengths on the line.

Justin Potter returns for this assignment after steering the filly to that maiden win and from barrier eight, she maps to cross and settle near mid-field with cover.

At her peak after three runs in, a clear run to the line can see her throwing down a challenge and the extra distance can only enhance her chances of victory in this contest.
