We have the best bets picked out from across the day with value selections for Moonee Valley Racecourse.
Moonee Valley Race 1 No. 4- Dashing Duchess
Keen on Dashing Duchess in the opener. The Symon Wilde-trained galloper has really hit her straps since missing out in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes (2800m) back in June, winning two and finishing runner-up in another. Her only failure was on a Heavy track. The lightly raced five-year-old has produced some neat figures at her past couple of starts and led all the way in quick time to defeat Brilliant Venture at the track and trip on August 10. She rises in grade for this but drops 4.5kg and a repeat performance is on the cards.
Moonee Valley Race 2 No. 4- Last Druid
Last Druid can go one spot better than a last start effort that saw him finish runner-up over the 1000m here on August 10. On that occasion, the Godolphin galloper began awkwardly and was snagged back from the barrier. His cause wasnt helped with the lack of any tempo in the race but he was able to rocket home to just miss behind Blue Stratum. He just needs to begin cleanly from the better barrier this time around and the extra 200m should suit.
Moonee Valley Race 3 No. 1- Dom
Dom should be hard to beat in Race 3 at the Valley. The Team Hayes galloper has had just the two career starts and was a five length winner on debut at Geelong before jumping sharply in grade when tackling the 1400m at Caulfield, going down late behind the impressive, I Am Velvet, who is now three from three. Dom led at Caulfiled and went a very healthy 12.9 lengths faster than standard, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced. He will put himself into the race from barrier 4 and we can expect him to be prominent at the business end.
Race 8 No. 5- Mornington Glory
Mornington Glory can go on with the job in the Carlyon Stakes. The six-year-old came on in leaps and bounds in the autumn when winning a couple before placing in the Oakleigh Plate. He battled with the track conditions when resuming at Caulfield over the 1100m but thrived at Moonee Valley over the 1000m last time when clearing out to win by four lenghts ahead of Taunting. The Gavin Bedggood-trained galloper looks right up to this and the wide barrier isnt a massive concern as the field should string out a bit early on.
