- Doomben racing on August 24 with nine races scheduled
- Best bets include Corfe Castle, Avone, Bohemian Lad and Manhood
Doomben racing takes place on Saturday, August 24, with a nine-race program set for the QLD metro meeting.
We have the best bets picked out from across day with value selections for Doomben Racecourse.
Race 4: No. 4 Corfe Castle
Managed a win on the Sunshine Coast last campaign and closed out that prep with second in a benchmark 78 at Doomben on a good track.
His first up run was a little disappointing albeit in an open class race but he improved with a placing second up.
Will be nearing peak fitness and Cejay Graham has ridden the horse in two of his four career wins.
Race 6: No. 11 Avone
The Sears stable has a handy one on their hands in the form of four-year-old mare Avone.
Was competitive in open class racing over the winter months before dropping back to a benchmark 70 and dominating her rivals to score by 3.5 lengths.
This is the next step up the ladder and she drops 2kg on that last start win with the apprentice claiming.
Race 7: No. 4 Bohemian Lad
Has won twice throughout this prep including an open class race at this track and distance four back.
Stepped up in distance to 1300m on the Sunshine Coast last start in a restricted race and was cramped for room at a vital stage to be beaten just over a length on the line.
He’ll appreciate the drop back in class for this assignment and is the horse to beat.
Race 8: No. 4 Manhood
Finished within half a length of the winner at Rosehill first up in a benchmark 94 over 1100m and a repeat of that would see him go very close in a race of this quality.
He’s only a lightly raced six-year-old gelding with plenty of upside and this jockey/horse combination is yet to miss a place and record three wins.
The support in betting came early which appeals and so does barrier seven.
