We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Flemington racetrack.
Race 3 No. 3- Fancify
I put Fancify into the blackbook after her first up run and am keen on the South Aussie mare to go one spot better after finishing runner-up behind She’s Bulletproof at Sandown on February 1. The Michael Hickmott-trained galloper went at an even tempo out in front over the 1200m before going down by a couple of lengths to the winner but holding the rest of them at bay. She went nine lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. Second up at her last preparation, she relished the step from the 1200m to the 1400m when leading all the way on Melbourne Cup day at Flemington, improving more than 10 lengths on figures to go 13 lengths faster than standard, which is a better figure than what any of these have set. I expect her to lead them up and be hard to beat at her second run back.
Race 8 No. 2- Mornington Glory
I wouldn't mind having something each-way on Mornington Glory in the feature of the day, the Lightning Stakes. He might not have measured up in slightly easier grade at the back end of his last preparation but I do like his form over the 1000m that reads as five wins from as many starts, while the six-year-old went a healthy 11.5 lengths faster than standard at his only go over the Flemington 1000m. That came just over a year ago ahead of Johnny Rocker, who then went on to push Imperatriz at Group 1 level. Mornington Glory produced consistent figures all throughout his last preparation, particularly over the 1000m when winning three on the trot. The Gavin Bedggood-trained galloper draws the grandstand side and is a decent challenger for a podium finish.
Race 10 No. 9- Sunshineinmypocket
Sunshineinmypocket can go on with the job in the final race of the day. The Ciaron Maher-trained mare has won four of five career starts and resumed from a long break with a tough win over the 1200m at Sandown when edging out Carbanados. This is a slight step up but she might have a bit of upside to come. Second up at her last preparation, she improved 12 lenghts on benchmark figures to score when stepping up from the 1200m to the 1300m. The daughter of Proisir closed off with the fastest late splits at Sandown last time and I expect the 1400m to be right up her alley. Jaylah Kennedy rides and claims the 2kg.
