Race 7: No.13 Capital Mac
The Bret Robb-trained galloper gains a start after early scratchings and second-up today, looks a real threat in this event.
Last start, the Capitalist gelding resumed after 16 months off the scene and in need of the run, finished unplaced in a Class 3 Highway Hcp over 1100m at Randwick.
Izzy Neale settled him back in the field to the turn, then in the run home, held his ground and beat three to the line.
Back on home soil today, he draws gate nine and maps to settle in the back half of the field with Kody Nestor back aboard.
Unbeaten in two previous second-up appearances, he will strip fitter off that first-up run and is well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 8: No.10 Ciao Bella Mia
The Anthony Mountney-trained galloper has found her mojo recently and looks set to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Castelvecchio mare chalked-up her second career win when she took out a BM58 Hcp over 1405m at the Sapphire Coast.
She settled just behind the speed to the turn, then coming off heels she took over soon after straightening and fought off London Star to grab the major prize on the line.
After that successful ride, Robyn Freeman remains aboard for this assignment where the mare draws ideally in gate and maps to be box-seating on settling.
Meeting similar company today, the four-year-old looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 9: No.2 Quick Sharp
Rod Northam saddles-up Quick Sharp here who is three starts into this campaign and now looks ready to strike.
Last start, the Bull Point mare showed plenty of improvement when third-up, beating all but one to the line in a BM58, here over 1200m.
On a Heavy 8 that day, she box-seated to the turn before coming off heels, then in the run home, chased the leader all the way to line, coming up half a length short of victory in the end.
In drier conditions today, she gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to settle on the leader’s heels with Anna Weatherlake steering the ship again.
The Scone-based mare is at her peak today and is drawn to give this contest a real shake.
