Cranbourne Preview & Best Bets
Racing is at Cranbourne on Friday evening
Cranbourne racing takes place on Friday, February 6, with a nine-race program set down for Cranbourne racetrack.

Our leading bets from the meeting are outlined here, alongside our full set of tips across the day’s racing.

Race 5 No.6- Shaime

Shaime shapes as an each-way player in Race 5. The six-year-old comes into this with five weeks in between runs but has performed well off similar breaks in the past and comes off a solid second up effort at Flemington back on New Years Eve when 3rd behind Rue De Royale over the 1200m. Immortal Star was runner-up in that race and has since won two on the trot. Third up at her last preparation, the Cliff Brown-trained mare was a massive improver on benchmark figures when a close up 4th in a BenchMark 84 race at Caulfield over the 1100m. Her best form is at that distance and she was a runner-up at her only go at the track and trip. She will tuck in just behind the first few and should be strong late in the piece.

Race 6 No.6- Gaeilge

It was a bit of a confidence booster for Gaeilge first up at Seymour three-weeks ago and the Godolphin galloper can measure up to BenchMark 64 level. At Seymour, he was lined up for the first time as a gelding and his mind was clearly on the job, dictating out in front before going on to score by three lengths, while there was a similar margin back to 3rd. This is a step up in class but he was a notable improver second up at his last preparation, while he had also trialled well prior to his return.

Race 8 No.4- Wiltshire Square

This looks to be a suitable assignment for Wiltshire Square. The Ciaron Maher filly showed a bit of promise as a two-year-old this time a year ago and has been solid in her two runs this time in with a 5th in BenchMark 74 company when resuming before as last start effort that saw her place 3rd behind Wintery over the 1000m at Pakenham. She was held up from the turn until the 200m in that race and should have finished a bit closer. The daughter of Wooton Bassett looks suited by the rise to the 1200m.
