Race 5: No.3 Almighty Jab
The Steve Massingham-trained galloper is second-up today and on home soil, looks a strong each-way chance in this event.
Last start, the Jabali gelding resumed after nine months off the scene and in need of the run, finished unplaced in Open company, here over 950m.
With plenty against him that day, he faced his first heavy track and didn’t handle the conditions, finishing five lengths from the winner with Nathan Thomas aboard.
On a forecast Soft 5 here, he draws nicely in gate two and maps to settle near mid-field with cover and after steering him to all five career wins to date, Ryan Wiggins returns to steer the ship for this assignment.
A known track specialist, boasting three wins at the track already, a clear run to the line should see him there at the finish in this contest.
Race 6: No.6 Seventies Hit
Second-up here, the Bodine Bailey-trained galloper has been in top-shelf for a while now and in Open company again, looks a serious contender for the main prize in this event.
Last start, the Your Song gelding resumed off a 19-week spell and did well to take out an Open Hcp over 1200m at Mount Garnet.
Sitting second at the leader’s girth, he took up the challenge in the run home and proved too strong in the end, taking home the gold medal in a tight finish.
From gate six, he maps to settle on the speed and boasting a sensational record of five wins from eight rides on the gelding, ‘Lethal’ Lacey Morrison is in the saddle again.
Back on home soil here, the six-year-old looks hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 7: No.11 Floral Legend
Team Rowe saddle-up Floral Legend here who is in a purple patch of form and back on drier ground here, looks a winning chance again in this event.
Last start, the Deep Field mare was shooting for the hat-trick when she stepped-up in grade and on a Heavy 9, finished unplaced in a Class 2 Plate, here over 1250m.
Lauren Guernier settled her mid-field early before pushing forward on the turn, then struggled in the wet conditions, beaten four lengths on the line.
The forecast Soft 5 should suit her much better here where she draws well in gate three and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with local rider Kristen Swaffer aboard as the new pilot.
With more preferable racing conditions here and a good draw, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
