Bendigo racing takes place on Friday, May 29, with a program set down for Bendigo.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is the first of a double header from Victoria on Friday

Race 1 No.7- Varadero

Varadero can go close in the opener at Bendigo. The Geelong based galloper has had the two career starts and pulled up a tad lame on debut after placing at Geelong, before stepping out over the 1100m at Bendigo on May 13 and finishing 4th behind Path Of Heroes. He settled handy but lost ground by racing greenly as they cornered before finishing off well to go three lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner in the race The son of Star Witness should be nearing his peak and he has the early speed to find a spot from the draw. Expect him to be right in the thick of it at the business end.

Race 2 No.1- The Muffin Man

This shapes as the best chance yet for The Muffin Man to chalk up the second win of his career. The four-year-old comes into this fourth up and showed improvement at his most recent start when jumping from the 1525m to the 2000m when running on for 4th behind Breathless Spirit. The winner out of that has since gone on to score again and The Muffin Man went 0.5 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is nearly eight lengths better than the next best figures of any runner. His only other fourth up run came just over a year ago when 3rd in a Saturday race at Caulfield over the 2000m before struggling in the Queensland Derby (2400m). He can sit in a perfect stalking position from barrier 3 and will be hard to stop late in the piece.
