Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also features in our daily selections.
Race 1 No.4- Twilight Elegance
Twilight Elegance will be hard to beat in the opener at Moe. The Ciaron Maher mare was a winner in BenchMark 66 company when stepping up to the 2500m at Pakenham three starts ago and has since missed out in harder company with a 5th in a BM78 at Caulfield before a last start effort that saw her place 7th in the Listed Port Adelaide Cup (2518m) at Morphettville. She drops sharply in grade for this and has gone faster than standard benchmark in her past two runs, indicating that she should have a bit of an edge on her rivals. The daughter of Dundeel loves a bit of sting out of the ground and has a stack of fitness in the tank after three runs at the distance range.
Race 2 No.14- From Yesterday
From Yesterday can measure up to the older horses in Race 2. The two-year-old has had the two career starts and has finished 4th in both of those. He finished alongside Thalestris on debut and that horse came out and won at Sale, while his effort to overcome a poor start and land within three lengths of the winner at Flemington was full of merit. The Busuttin/Young colt went more than two lengths faster than standard benchmark in that race, which is more than nine lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner in this race. From barrier 2, he can sit within striking distance with Beau Mertens on board and the rise to the 1600m looks like it will suit.
Race 3 No.5- Not Guilty
Keen on Not Guilty in Race 3 after the four-year-old made a promising debut at Werribee recently, finishing 3rd in a blanket finish behind Second Time. He was well supported in the late betting but lost ground at the start before settling handy. The son of Shamus Award loomed as the winner at the 100m mark but just peaked on his run late in the piece to go four lengths slower than standard, which is the best last start figure of any runner. This looks no harder and he will have improvement to come at his second outing, while he should enjoy the run of the race from barrier 2.
Race 8 No.3- Misty Legend
Going with Misty Legend in the final race of the day at Moe. The former Hawkes galloper is now in the hands of Carly Thomas at Pakenham and all three of his career wins have come when first up. Two of those came in his final two campaigns with his former trainers before lining up at Caulfield last November, placing 4th behind Laa De Sha in a BenchMark 70 over the 1000m when leading and just fading later. He was then 4th in a strong form race at Ballarat. The five-year-old ran strong time in relation to this grade when fresh last time and should be ready after a couple of promising trials, while he won’t have to work too hard early on from the low draw.
