Race 4: No.6 Wandaye
The Rosehill-based galloper is three starts into this preparation and in the conditions today, looks set to bounce back and give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Wandjina mare finished unplaced in a BM64 over 1400m at Hawkesbury.
Beginning well, she settled third, one off the fence to the turn and looked threatening before dying on her run, finding the 1400m a little too far on the day, weakening out of the event.
Meeting similar company here, she draws nicely in gate four and maps to settle near mid-field from the good gate with Brock Ryan retaining the ride.
Dropping back to a more suitable 1200m here, the four-year-old has also won a 900m trial since that last run and with a wet track forecast, the mare looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.
Race 5: No.5 La Mer Bleue
The Allan McRae-trained galloper resumes today after an eight-week spell and having his first start for the stable, looks a solid each-way chance for victory in this event.
Last start, the Irish-sired gelding ended his last campaign with a win in a BM58 Hcp over 1200m at Wagga.
On a Soft 6 that day, Teaghan Martin had him leading on settling and in full control of the tempo, went on to score comfortably, a length clear on the line.
Finishing third in a recent trial, the four-year-old now lines-up in a stronger Class 3 Hcp where he jumps from gate seven and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Amy McLucas as the new pilot for this assignment.
A two-time winner on heavy tracks, conditions here look ideal for him and already a winner when first-up, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 8: No.2 Olington Lane
Unbeaten in two starts to date, the Lauren Davies-trained galloper has the runs on the board to suggest he will take beating in this event.
Last start, the Ole Kirk gelding stepped-up from a Maiden Class win and faced Class 1 company when he went back-to-back, claiming victory in the 1200m event on this track.
Slowly away, he settled back in the field before working into the race on the turn, then finding his way clear, finished strongly to arrive in time and claim the major prize right on the line.
This BM58 looks no harder and from gate four, he maps to do no early work as he settles back in the field with Pierre Boudvillain steering the ship again for this assignment.
The 1400m looks ideal for him now and yet to taste defeat, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
