Race 3: Thinkhardandfast
The Mark Currie-trained galloper resumed off a 19-week break on Saturday and was most impressive when finishing third in the BM78 Hcp over 1200m.
Never on the track, the lightly-raced So You Think mare covered more ground than the early explorers in the race and still managed to finish within a length of the winner in the end.
Runner-up twice in two previous second-up appearances, she has good fresh form and looks well worth following after he efforts on the weekend.
Race 8: Tavs
Arguably the performance of the day with the Mark Currie-trained galloper destroying his rivals in the Listed Weetwood over 1200m.
Fresh off a 16-week spell, the Dundeel gelding showed promise in two trails prior to Saturday’s race and certainly franked those efforts when he put more than four lengths on the 14-strong field in a dazzling first-up display.
Angela Jones settled him mid-field, one off the fence before securing a rails run as they straightened where she asked the five-year-old for a final effort, to which he obliged and raced away to claim the $92,000 first prize purse for the event.
If that was the entrée, we are in for a massive main meal with his next few efforts.
Race 9: Cryptolini
The second of a winning double for Mark Currie, the Encryption gelding was having just his second race start on Saturday and while it wasn’t the prettiest of runs, the three-year-old was still impressive as he beat home the two fancied runners in the race by more than a length on the line.
Drawn wide, he was trapped wide from barrier rise before fanning even wider on the turn, only to find another gear and take home the major prize with plenty to spare in the end.
Unbeaten in two starts now, stick while the iron is hot because there’s plenty left in this promising galloper.
