Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 3: Benchmark 72 (1350m) – Run Lucy Run
Second-up on Saturday, the Glenn Thornton-trained mare was last away but improved to be mid-field on settling to the turn, then angling for a run, she was held-up most of the way home, then once clear hit the line well to finish fifth, beaten two lengths in the end.
She is an improving type and already a two-time winner when third-up, keep her safe for now.
Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1110m) – Petit Artiste
The Tony Gollan-trained mare was first-up after five months in the paddock and put in a bold effort on fresh legs when finishing fifth in this event.
Emily Lang settled her fourth on the fence where she tracked the leaders to the turn before scouting wide, then on straightening hit the line well, doing her best work over the final 100m, beaten just over two lengths in the end.
Not known for her first-up efforts in the past, she has placed twice when second-up and has won when third-up so it should pay to stick with her for a couple more yet.
Race 6: Class 6 Plate (1110m) – Fukubana
The Matt Dunn-trained gelding resumed after ten months off the scene and caught the eye when finishing second in this event.
Last out of the gates, Andrew Mallyon was content to follow them all to the turn, then in the run to the line, wound-up the six-year-old who found another gear and stormed home to grab the silver medal, beaten just over a length in the end.
Already a two-time winner when second-up, watch for him over further ground now.
