Race 2: No.3 Sunset Session
The Team Gangemi-trained galloper is high-flying this time in and looks well placed here for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Sessions gelding was third-up and coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes, went one better to land his first career win by taking out a set weights Maiden over 1000m at Bunbury.
Clint Johnston-Porter settled him near the tail of the field to the turn, then straightening as the widest runner, came down the centre of the track and finished over the top of the 12-strong field to grab victory on the line.
Jumping from gate four, he maps to settle back in the field near the fence with Johnston-Porter steering the ship again.
Fourth-up and at his peak today, the three-year-old should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 7: No.11 Mai Aloha
Team Williams saddle-up Mai Aloha here who is in career-best form this preparation and looks set to add another scalp to her resume in this event.
Last start, the Long Leaf mare made it three-straight runner-up finishes when she beat all but one home in a 1000m Hcp at Belmont.
With regular rider William Pike aboard, she jumped from gate seven and found the front on settling, then in the run home, looked to be safely holding them all but was grabbed late by a swooper (Ripper Farooq) carrying 2kgs less in weight on the day.
Meeting similar company here, she draws gate three with the jury out on whether she will lead or box-seat on settling as Pike takes the reins again.
Yet to miss a top-two finish in four starts this campaign, she will be at her peak today and looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 9: No.10 Military Jane
The Donna Riordan-trained galloper is in great touch of late and ticks enough boxes here to give this event a real fright at odds.
Last start, the Universal Ruler mare found the podium for the third-straight time when she finished third in a Class 3 Hcp over 1400m at Pinjarra.
On a Heavy 8 and in blinding rain, Joey Azzopardi took her straight to the lead to the turn where she tracked wide to find firmer going and in the run home, did a mighty job to hold onto third place in very unfavourable conditions.
On firmer ground today, she meets similar company over the 1400m again where she draws gate 10 and maps to cross and settle just behind the speed with Azzopardi retaining the ride for this assignment.
Placed twice in Class 3 company previously and already a track and distance winner, the five-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this event.
