Race 3: Benchmark 70 Hcp (1000m) – Acapella Sun
The Tony Gollan-trained mare resumed on Saturday after 18 weeks off the scene and blew any chance of winning when she left the gates in last place and settled ten lengths off the speed.
Tracking wide on straightening, she could still see them all inside the final 200m but from there, really hit top gear where she crossed the line in fifth place, beaten just over three lengths in the end.
Already a two-time winner when second-up, she will be looking for a little more ground now and a better start next time could see her saluting again real soon.
Race 4: Three-Year-Old Hcp (1000m) – Forgotten Spirit
The David Vandyke-trained filly was first-up on Saturday after a 19-week spell and impressed when finishing second in this event.
Ryan Maloney settled her mid-field on the fence before checking off heels on the turn and finished strongly down the centre of the track, beaten a whisker on the line out of first prize.
The Spirit Of Boom filly will also be looking for a little further who won second-up last preparation and she can only improve from Saturday’s effort. Keep her safe for now.
Race 6: Benchmark 80 Hcp (1600m) – Livalittle
Another from the Gollan stable, the gelding was second-up on Saturday and after jumping from gate 10 (of 11), settled last, a dozen lengths off the speed.
Coming off the fence approaching the turn, the four-year-old was still last and the widest runner as they headed for home where he took part in a three-horse battle to the line, finishing best in the end to take home the major prize.
The gelding looks a promising type with five wins and as many minor placings from his 12 starts to date and should be winning again soon after this performance.
