The Chris Waller-trained galloper is in great touch this time in and looks well placed to make his first visit to Eagle Farm a winning one.
Last start, the Lonhro gelding brought-up his second career win when he took out a Class 1 Plate over 1700m at Ipswich.
Settling mid-field early, Ben Thompson worked him into the race nearing the turn, then in the run home, finished too strong in the end, claiming victory over the line.
Well drawn here in gate five, he maps to be sitting just behind the speed on settling with Thompson calling the shots again for this assignment.
In career-best form, the three-year-old looks set for back-to-back success in this contest.
Race 6: No.1 Mean Approach
The Pat Webster-trained galloper is second-up today and looks set to carry-on with his good form in this event.
Last start, the Lean Mean Machine gelding resumed off a 16-week spell and did it in style when he easily accounted for a BM70 Hcp, here over 1000m.
From gate nine, he went forward early but then pulled out of the battle for the lead and settled mid-field on the fence, then scoring a dream rails-run, finished hard along the fence and proved too strong in the end, crossing the line 1.5 lengths clear of the field, carrying top weight.
Stepping-up to BM78 company today, he draws gate seven and maps to cross and settle near mid-field with Jai Williams retaining the ride.
Boasting a strong second-up record, the five-year-old looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 8: No.5 Gambino
Kelly Schweida saddles-up Gambino here who has found his mojo this preparation and looks every chance of going on with it in this event.
Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding came off a close-up fourth in a BM65 at Ipswich when he grabbed his first win for this campaign by taking out a Class 2 Hcp over 1400m at the Gold Coast.
Rob Thorburn had him box-seating on settling to the turn, then came off the leader’s heels and soon after took control of the race before going on to score a comfortable win.
Stepping-up to BM70 grade in metro-class company here, he draws ideally in gate two and maps to settle in the first half-dozen near the fence with apprentice Jace McMurray aboard for the first time.
Placed at the track and distance previously and at his peak, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
