Race 1: No.6 Mr Tadashi
The Doug Gorrel-trained galloper is in career-best form of late and looks the one to beat in this event.
Last start, the Maurice gelding brought-up the hat-trick when he clobbered his rivals in a BM56 Hcp, here over 2000m.
Jeff Penza had him sharing the lead to the turn, then on straightening he set sail for home and went on to score by almost three lengths across the line.
Stepping-up to BM74 grade today, he drops in weight and has Penza in the saddle again.
A known track specialist, boasting four wins from his six starts here, all six career wins have come on wet tracks and with a trouble-free run, he looks the testing material again in this contest.
Race 6: No.7 Future Fund
The locally-trained galloper found his mojo recently and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Flying Artie gelding turned a run of outs into an impressive win when he took out a BM82 Hcp, here over 1400m.
Sitting third behind the speed, he scouted wide on the turn then soon after took control and revelling in the Heavy 9 conditions, went on to score untroubled, crossing the line more than a length clear in the end.
From gate ten, he maps to cross and settle near mid-field with Shaun Guymer as the new pilot for this assignment.
Meeting similar company today, the wet conditions will suit and meeting similar company, the five-year-old looks in the mix for a podium finish in this contest.
Race 7: No.13 Midnight Affair
The Nick Olive-trained galloper has improved after two starts back and third-up today looks a major contender for the gold medal in this event.
Last start, the Epaulette mare came off an unplaced effort when first-up and beat all but one home in a BM58 Hcp, here over 1200m.
Jumping from the outside gate (10), regular rider Coriah Keatings settled her last to the turn, then sticking to the inside, worked her way through traffic and once clear, hit the line strongly, arriving in time to claim the silver medal.
From gate seven, she maps to settle back in the field with Keatings steering the ship again.
Already a winner when third-up, the five-year-old also boasts a strong record in wet conditions and over the longer 1600m trip, should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 8: No.6 Postwar
Dan McCarthy saddles-up Postwar here who is high-flying after two starts back and looks a real winning chance in this event.
Last start, the Extreme Choice gelding was second-up when he destroyed his rivals by taking out a Maiden Plate over 1000m at Albury.
Sent out a white-hot ($1.40) favourite, he shared the lead to the turn, then on straightening, revelled in the Heavy 8 conditions and in the driving rain, raced away to put five lengths on them over the line.
Facing BM58 company here, he gets the gun-run from gate one and has Brodie Loy back for his second ride on the three-year-old.
Even fitter after those two runs back, with conditions to suit here, he looks set to go on with it in this contest.
