Racing was at Flemington on Saturday July 18 for a 10-race programme, highlighted by the Flemington Cup.

Here are our blackbookers and horses to follow from the action.

Race 3 - BenchMark 78 (1600m)- Changing Colours 🥇 1st

Changing Colours is a horse to follow after producing one of the better wins of the Flemington meeting. The five-year-old was having her second run since switching from the Chris Waller stables to Lucy Yeomans and was held up from the 400m until the 250m before exploding once clear, recording the fastest final 200m of the entire program to win the Rising Stars Final (1600m). She seems to be thriving since the stable switch and the way she accelerated through the line suggests there is more to come as we head towards the spring feature races

Race 2 - 2yo (1000m)- Leopard Shark 🥈 2nd & Almontego 4th 👀

The two-year-olds lined up in Race 2 of the day at Flemington in race where the two favourties could only manage 5th and 6th. The race was run at a bit of a breakneck tempo from the 800m to the 400m, leaving quite a few of the youngsters gassed. Leopard Shark did well at her first run back from a spell to finish runner-up behind Riverina Lulu, give she won second and third up at her debut preparation. Almontego was having his first race start and lined up at $91. He was unlucky not to finish closer, pouring on the fastest 600m-400m split of the entire day before being chopped out of it at the 250m. Keep an eye out for him in something similar or easier at his next start.

Race 7 - BenchMark 88 (1200m)- Barari 7th 👀

Barari goes into the forgive file after racing on the inferior inside section of the track in a race where the grandstand-side runners clearly held the advantage. The filly began awkwardly but still stuck on well enough to finish just behind the best of the inside division, Great Maximus, despite the pattern being against her. Apprentice Jabez Johnstone felt she may have come to the end of her preparation and the stable indicated she is likely to head for a spell. She's worth following when she resumes as a four-year-old.
