Stawell racing takes place on Friday, April 17, with a program set down for Stawell.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is the first of a Friday double-header in Victoria with Cranbourne to folllow.

Race 2 No.9- Wild Ruby

Going with the nine-start Maiden, Wild Ruby, in Race 2. The Mitchell Freedman-trained galloper came close at Ballarat two starts ago when an unlucky runner-up behind Here Comes Wozza then was posted wide no cover throughout at Ararat at her most recent start when sticking on for 4th behind Where’s My Sock. She comes into this at her fourth run and at her only career start at this stage she produced a career peak on benchmark figures when 3rd at Moonee Valley in a race that produced six winners. The five-year-old maps to enjoy a midfield spot with cover and showed at Echuca that she can produce a strong finishing burst.

Race 4 No.14- Egyptian Legend

Hoping the third emergency, Egyptian Legend, can sneak into the field in Race 4. The Dan O’Sullivan-trained galloper has been an improver since stepping up in trip and settled handy over the 2000m at Kilmore at her most recent start when 5th behind Arabian Prince. She was held up as the cornered and lost a bit of ground before working home well to land three lengths off the winner, who has since finished runner-up in Listed grade at Caulfield. The daughter of Tosen Stardom went four lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner, while she will strip fitter for her second go over the distance.

Race 7 No.5- Rampazetto

Rampazetto can just about make it back to back wins when he steps out in Race 7. The well-travelled galloper has settled in at Kyneton via NSW and Darwin, stepping out at his home track when resuming with a victory over the 1208m ahead of Queue Jumper. He settled handy and got the upper hand late, going 2.2 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is four lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner in this race. He will land in a nice spot in the front half from barrier 6 and can sustain some solid splits, while the son of Written By will strip fitter.
