Seymour Racing Tips for April 26 – Top Calibre to handle the Top Weight in Race 6
- Holding Captive is favored in Race 2 due to a strong debut.
- Path Of Heroes has shown potential for improvement in Race 4.
- Top Calibre, with prior success and experience, is a top contender in Race 6 despite weight.
Seymour racing takes place on Sunday, April 26, with a program set down for Seymour.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also features in our daily selections.
Race 2 No.3- Holding Captive
Holding Captive should be hard to beat in Race 2 of the day ate Seymour. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper came close on debut at Geelong on Mach 22 when attempting to lead all the way, setting a solid tempo before going down late in a headbobber behind Fiveminutewarning. The son of Zousain ran quick time for this grade to go 1.2 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is more than three lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. He won’t have to work too hard to lead them up or box seat from the inside barrier and with likely improvement to come at his second career start, he shapes as the one to beat.
Race 4 No.11- Path Of Heroes
Keen on Path Of Heroes in Race 4. The three-year-old has had just the two career starts and had excuses when pulling up with issues at Pakenham on debut last year before a promising first up run at Sale when 4th over the 1006m behind Cattle Camp. He sat behind the leading pair but was held up rounding the home turn before finishing a length away. The Robbie Griffiths-trained gelding is another that should have scope for improvement and with a clear crack at them this time around, he should be hard to hold out late in the piece.
Race 6 No.1- Top Calibre
I am prepared to roll the dice on the topweight in Race 6, Top Calibre. He will have to do it with the 62.5kg but has the class to take this out. His first up run off a long layoff was a bit inconclusive, working his way into it in BenchMark 78 company at Caulfield a few weeks ago before being blocked for the majority of the straight and on the inferior ground when a three-length 9th behind Rue De Royale. This is much easier and he was a stylish winner when second up two preparation’s ago before pulling up lame in his only other start at this stage. He will look to settle on the speed from barrier 7 and can progress further than this grade.
