Race 5: No.6 Moochi Starlight
The John Wigginton-trained galloper is second-up today and looks in the mix for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the All Too Hard gelding resumed after five months off the scene and wasted no time when he broke through for his first win by taking out a Maiden Plate over 800m at Thangool.
Warwick Satherley settled him second in the race before finishing best in the run home to claim victory by half a length, carrying 59.5kgs that day.
Drawn gate ten here, he maps to push forward and cross to settle in the first half-dozen with Satherley in the saddle again.
His resume shows a hard luck story here at Callaghan Park with six starts ending in four runner-up finishes so a change of luck is overdue and with a trouble-free run, he can break the duck on this track today.
Race 7: No.6 Divakara
Stuart Kendrick saddles-up Divakara here who is high-flying of late and looks set to bring up the hat-trick in this event.
Last start, the Dundeel gelding came off a Class 3 win and franked that effort when he repeated the dose in a BM65 over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast.
From gate seven, Ben Thompson settled him back in the field before working into the race approaching the turn, then despite giving them six lengths start while lumping 62kgs, still finished too good for them, crossing the line half a length clear in the end.
Coming off a Provincial track win, he faces country class company here and in Open class today, drops 6kgs for the assignment with Ron Stewart aboard for the first time.
From gate two, he maps to do no early work as he settles back in the field with cover and securing a clear run to the line, he should be there at the finish in this contest.
Race 8: No.6 Ask Me Mate
The Jamie McConachy-trained galloper is second-up today and ticks the boxes that suggest he will take beating in this event.
Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding resumed after 10 months off the scene and having his first start for the new stable, wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth in a BM65 Hcp, here over 1200m.
Seeing his new home track for the first time (under race conditions), he drew the carpark in gate 11 and settled last of the 12 runners before tracking wide on the turn then in the run home, made up good ground to finish just two lengths from the winner in the end.
Fitter for that run back, he gets the gun-run from gate one today and will do little to no early work where he maps to settle near mid-field with Chris McIver back for his second ride on the gelding.
All four career wins have come on this track (while with the Kevin Hansen stable) and already a two-time winner when second-up, he looks the testing material in this contest.
