Race 2: No.4 Dirty Habits
The Mitchell Pateman-trained galloper has been knocking on the door after two starts back and now looks ready to break through in this event.
Last start, the American-sired gelding made it two-straight podium finishes when he finished a close-up third in a set-weights Maiden over 1300m at Northam.
Lucy Fiore settled him mid-field to the turn before coming off heels and bustling his way between runners, he finally found clean air and doing his best work late, arrived in time to grab the minor prize in the race, finishing less than half a length from victory.
Fitter for those two runs, he draws well in gate six and maps to settle better than mid-field near the fence with William Pike as the new pilot.
The step-up to the 1700m looks ideal for him now and with a trouble-free run, the three-year-old should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 4: No.3 Cosmic Treat
The Darren McCauliffe-trained galloper is second-up here and has done enough to suggest she can go one better in this event.
Last start, the Universal Ruler filly resumed after six months off the scene and impressed when beating all but one home in a No Metro Win Hcp over 1200m at Belmont.
Clint Johnston-Porter settled her second early before coming off the leader’s heels on straightening then finished well to grab the silver medal in the race.
Drawn out in barrier eight here, she maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with Johnston-Porter remaining aboard for this assignment.
Already a winner when second-up, the three-year-old can get the job done in this contest.
Race 8: No.2 Rainline
Team Pearce saddle-up Rainline here who comes off a stint in city class racing and looks set to compete strongly in this event.
Last start, the Rommel mare finished just out of the money again when she claimed fourth prize in the Winter Series Final over 1400m at Belmont.
On a Heavy 8 that day, Brad Parnham settled her mid-field to the turn, then straightened as the widest runner and plugged home gamely to finish just behind the placegetters again.
Dropping back to provincial class racing here, she faces Class 5 opposition where she gets the gun-run from gate 1 and where she maps to settle better than mid-field on the fence and has Holly Nottle back for the ride, having steered her to victory previously.
In good touch this time in, the four-year-old should find this assignment a little easier and with a clear run to the line, looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
