Warrnambool racing takes place on Thursday, July 23, with an eight-race meeting set down for Warrnambool.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 2 No.7- Justibella


Justibella can break through in Race 2. The Ciaron Maher filly is yet to win in seven starts but her two best performances have come on Soft and Heavy tracks, including a last start effort that saw her miss by a nostril behind Dreck at Ballarat with those two putting five lengths on the restn of them. The daughter of Justify went 2.7 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced in their careers to date. She will camp just off the speed and is set to get her preferred surface, while there has been plenty of early market support. 

Race 4 No.10- Adira River 


Adira River will find this much easier than her most recent start that saw her bomb out of it in the Mahongany Challenge Final 2500m at Flemington a few Saturday’s ago. Another from the Maher camp, she was way too keen out in front, setting a suicidal tempo when running Pride Of Jenni-type sectionals, more than 13 lengths faster than standard until the 600m. Forget that performance and her form prior saw her claim a six-length victory at Hamilton before placing 3rd when keen again in BenchMark 66 at Cranbourne over the 2025m. The daughter of Ghaiyyath obviously has some talent and the stable apply the earmuffs in a bid to get her to relax. She has nearly halved her quote since acceptances and this does look an easy race. 

Race 5 No.1- Astradeel


Astradeel has to be considered at the each-way quote in Race 5. The veteran drops comes in with seven weeks in between runs and drops back from a BenchMark 74 over the 2400m at Sandown to a BenchMark 62 over the 1700m. He has had four goes at the track and trip for two wins and two runner-up’s and picked up a win at the track and trip at a similar stage last year when dropping from the 2000m, while his other 1700m victory at the Bool came earlier this prep. The son of Dundeel will relish the likely Heavy track and should enjoy a sufficient cart into the race with the 3kg claimer, Dylan Dean to ride. 

Race 7 No.2- Moonraker


Moonraker can go close in Race 7. The locally trained galloper has been performing well at city tracks at his past couple and wasn't far away when 8th behind Along The River in a BenchMark 70 two starts ago at Caulfield before leading and finishing runner-up last time at Morphettville over the 1100m on a Heavy 10 behind Mansiere. The 3rd horse out of that has since come out and won by five lengths. He has gone faster than standard benchmark at his past two starts, which compares very well to his opposition in this race and should have time to cross over without too much trouble from barrier 10.
