Race 4: No.3 Ruins Of Rome
The Team Munce-trained galloper is second-up here and ticks all the right boxes that suggest he can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start the Castelvecchio gelding resumed after 19 weeks off the scene and in need of the run, finished unplaced in a BM70 over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast.
From gate 10 (of 11), he settled back in the field to the turn, then in the run home, stuck to the inside and held his ground before his condition gave out over the final 100m, still beaten just over two lengths on the line with Ben Osmond aboard.
Fitter for that first-up effort, he jumps from gate nine here and maps to cross and settle mid-field with Osmond in the saddle again.
The stable put the blinkers back on for this assignment and already a two-time winner when second-up, he should be there at the finish in this contest.
Race 7: No.4 Carravilla
Team Munce saddle-up Carravilla here who resumes after 18 weeks in the paddock with a resume that suggests she will take beating in this event.
Last start, the Pierata mare ended her last campaign by finishing fourth in a Class 5 Hcp over 1550m at Doomben.
Carrying 59.5kgs, Cejay Graham settled her second at the leader’s girth and did it hard from there with the job of taking the field up to the front runner, then on straightening, she had nothing left to offer but still fought on courageously to finish just behind the placegetters.
The mare has trialled twice since, in preparation for her return here where her first-up record is glowing, winning on two occasions.
The track specialist boasts three wins from four starts at the track with Talia Fenlon back to ride, looking for her second win on the mare.
She maps to do no early work from gate four and with a clear run to the line, the four-year-old can give this contest a real shake on fresh legs.
Race 8: No.4 Miss Chastain
The Team Archibald-trained galloper is in good touch after two starts back and down in grade here, looks a major player to take out this event.
Last start, the Wootton Bassett mare came off a first-up win at Newcastle when she headed north of the border and seeing the Eagle Farm for the first time, finished fifth in a BM78 over the 1600m trip.
Daniel Moor settled her mid-field on the fence to the turn, then in the run home, chased hard all the way with the class rise being her biggest hurdle where she crossed the line less than three lengths from the winner.
Dropping back to BM68 opposition here, she draws nicely in gate two and maps to settle just behind the speed with Moor steering the ship again and wearing the blinkers for the first time, she will strip fitter for those two runs back and should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
