Race 5: No.7 Whoops A Daisy

The Kristi Evans-trained galloper is in great touch this time in and looks every chance of going back-to-back in this event.

Last start, the Calyx mare was finally rewarded for her sound efforts this preparation when she recorded her second career-win in a Class 1 Hcp, here over 1100m.

The in-form Rochelle Milnes was aboard for the first time and settled the mare in the box-seat where she trailed the leader to the turn, then on straightening, tried for a rails run but was squeezed out and forced to come off heels where she finally saw daylight and arrived in time to grab the win right on the line.

That win brought up 100 career-winners for trainer Evans.

Drawn nicely in gate five here, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Milnes in the saddle again for this assignment.

In winning form now and already a winner at the track and distance here, the five-year-old looks the testing material in this contest.

Race 6: No.6 Victory Queen

Sarah Rutten saddles-up Victory Queen here who is high-flying this preparation and looks well placed to make it two-straight in this event.

Last start, the Ready for Victory mare made it two wins from her past three starts when she BM0-54 Hcp over 1430m at Naracoorte.

On a Heavy 8 that day, Connor Murtagh settled her two pairs back to the turn, then in the run home, tracked wider and relishing the conditions, stormed home to grab the win near the line.

Ideally drawn in gate one here, she maps to settle near mid-field on the fence and has Noel Callow as the new pilot.

All three career wins have come on wet tracks so conditions here look ideal for the mare and at her peak, the five-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.

Race 8: No.6 Chance Taken

The Chris Bieg-trained galloper has been thereabouts in all five starts this campaign and should now be ready to strike in this event.

Last start, the American-sired gelding came off consecutive runner-up efforts when stepped-up sharply in distance and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth in a BM0-58 Hcp over 2200m at Balaklava.

Dylan Caboche settled him back in the field to the turn before scouting wide on straightening, then one paced to the 100m mark, he then hit the line strongly from there, finishing just 2.5 lengths from the winner.

Meeting similar company here, he drops back to the 2000m trip and maps to again settle back in the field with Caboche retaining the ride for this assignment.

Down in weight and sporting the visors for the first time, the six-year-old is a prime candidate to take out this contest.
