Race 5: No.8 Capture Me
The Joe Pride-trained galloper is in top-shelf form after three starts this preparation and is ideally placed to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Zoustar gelding continued to improve and third-up, found his best form when he clobbered his rivals in a Class 1 Hcp over 1150m at Illawarra Grange.
Sent out at un-backable odds ($1.12), Chad Schofield settled him mid-field to the turn when he secured a dream split between runners and in the run to the line, took control and went on to score by almost three lengths on the line.
Stepping-up to BM72 grade here, he draws nicely in gate two and maps to be parked right behind the speed, possibly box-seating on settling with Schofield in the saddle again.
At his peak here, the four-year-old looks the testing material again in this contest.
Race 6: No.1 Inoue
Richard Litt saddles-up Inoue here who is second-up and looks well placed for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Shalaa gelding resumed after 23 weeks off the scene and did it in style when he clobbered his opposition in a BM72, here over 1100m.
On a Heavy 8 that day, he reared at barrier rise and settled second-last to the turn, then sticking to the fence, Zac Lloyd secured a dream rails run and in the run home, finished too good for them, going on to score by 2.5 lengths across the line.
Meeting similar company today, he carries more weight here but from gate five, he maps to settle a little closer this time with James McDonald (J.Mac) aboard for the first time.
Already a two-time winner when second-up and now a track and distance winner as well, he looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 7: No.3 Barking Mad
The Chris Waller-trained galloper is in career-best form this time in and is ideally placed to claim another victory in this event.
Last start, the Wootton Bassett gelding was shooting for the hat-trick when he beat all but one home in a BM72 over 1500m at Rosehill.
Nash Rawiller had him box-seating on settling to the turn before coming off heels and working into the race, then chased the leader all the way home but was unable to bridge the gap, having to settle for second prize. The slow tempo that was set didn’t help his cause that day.
Fourth-up and at his peak here, he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating with J.Mac taking the reins for this assignment.
Up against similar company here with conditions to suit, he looks set to give this contest a real shake.
