Mornington Racing Tips for September 4 – Chicago Blues hard to beat in last race of the day at Mornington

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our Thursday tips.

Bella Cinque can be an improver back on to a drier surface in Race 5. The lightly raced seven-year-old hasn't handled the Heavy in two runs this time in and we should get a Soft or better for Mornington on Friday with forecast showers to arrive in the evening. Her previous third up run saw her improve big time on benchmark figure to score at Moe before winning fourth up at Caulfield and the seven weeks in between runs suits. She draws barrier 7 and won’t be far away when they settle with the 3kg claimer, Sam Kennedy, to ride. 

Chicago Blues can make amends for a last start effort that saw him miss out in narrow fashion at Wangaratta on August 23. The locally trained galloper was third up that day and was backed in late to start a $3 favourite but was slowly away before working up to settle just forward of midfield, closing off with the fastest last 200m to miss behind Kentahten. Those two put a decent gap on the rest. The four-year-old should be right at his peak now and his 1200m form is better than it reads, including a two-length 5th at Group 3 level last year. He draws wide but the tempo in this race should suit.
