Race 4: No.1 Oakfield Alaska
The Scott Singleton-trained galloper is unbeaten in three starts to date and first-up today, looks set to keep that trend going in this event.
Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding ended his first campaign by scoring the hat-trick when he took out a Class 2 Hcp over 1500m at Hawkesbury.
Mikayla Weir settled him mid-field on the fence to the turn before coming off heels and tracking wide on straightening, the he was bumped twice and had to be rebalanced before finishing strongly to grab victory on the line.
Retuning to racing here after four months in the paddock, he draws nicely in gate three and maps to settle better than mid-field on the fence with regular rider Mikayla Weir in the saddle again.
Well prepared with two trials under his belt, a trouble-free run here should see him very hard to beat in this contest.
Race 6: No.2 Matusalem
Chris Waller saddles-up Matusalem here who is fitter after three runs back and looks a genuine winning chance in this event.
Last start, the six-year-old son of The Autumn Sun made it back-to-back podium finishes when he took home third prize in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup over 2000m at Randwick.
Tyler Schiller had him settled last to the turn, before weaving through traffic and while little chance of winning, he made up a ton of ground to arrive in time and claim the minor prize, beaten just half a length on the line.
Down in grade today and facing Listed company, he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to do no early work as he settles in the back half of the field on the fence.
James McDonald is the new pilot and at his peak with a clear run to the line, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 7: No.6 Just Glamourous
The Joe Pride-trained galloper is high-flying this preparation and looks every chance of going back-to-back in this event.
Last start, the Justify mare made it five podium finishes from six starts this campaign when she took out a Class 6 at set weights, here over 1200m.
Sam Clipperton had her parked second at the leader’s girth to the turn, before engaging in a two-horse battle with Mrs Maree all the way home, finishing best to grab the gold medal on the line.
Getting all the favours here, she jumps from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling with Clipperton steering the ship again.
In career-best form and now a winner at the track as well, the six-year-old will take a ton of beating in this contest.
