Geelong Racing Tips for September 11 – Karren to resume with a win in Race 6
- Misty Whimper (R3) tipped to win after strong recent form.
- Karren (R6) resumes with top-class references and ideal draw.
- Touxlove (R9) boasts race-best speed figures and barrier, set to feature in finish.
Geelong racing takes place on Friday, September 11, with a competitive provincial meeting set down for Geelong.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which precedes a huge day of racing from Flemington on Saturday where the feature is the Makybe Diva Stakes.
Race 3 No.2 – Misty Whimper
Misty Whimper can just about go on with the job in Race 3. The four-year-old was solid when runner-up at Geelong over the 1100m at his second career start in a race that has produced four subsequent winners, before stepping out off an 11-week break at Seymour recently and claiming his Maiden over the 1200m.
That race has also produced four winners in the space of just a month. He drew wide and settled back off a slow tempo but still had the answers, coming home five lengths faster than standard benchmark over the last 600m.
The son of D'Argento draws wide again in the eight-horse field, but there should be sufficient tempo with the likes of Imperial Award in action. Expect him to be running over the top of them late in the piece.
Race 6 No.10 – Karren
Karren resumes off a long break but might have the class to take out Race 6. The Lloyd Kennewell-trained galloper made her debut last December at Sandown and led at a solid clip to edge out the likes of Sass Appeal by half a length.
That horse has gone on to win five in a row, including the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m), while Thanks Gorgeous and Yellowjacket have won and placed in Listed races. Fair to say it is one of the better form references for a Maiden.
Karren comes in with a series of trials under the belt, finishing runner-up behind Plunger in the most recent of those. The four-year-old draws ideally in barrier 4 and should be hard to beat.
Race 9 No.11 – Touxlove
This looks to be a suitable assignment for Touxlove. The five-year-old has been racing well on Heavy tracks this campaign, scoring at Cranbourne three starts ago, while she comes off a fourth in a Benchmark 74 behind Buccleuch over the 1400m at her most recent start, when racing a tad keenly.
She went more than eight lengths faster than standard benchmark on that occasion, which is four lengths better than the next-best last-start figure of any runner and a better figure than any horse in this race has produced in the past two years.
The Clayton Douglas-trained mare draws much better this time around in barrier 5 and won't be far away after they settle. Expect her to feature in the finish.
